This is why you don’t store your equipment with fuel in it all winter. Saved one from the landfill.

Also, tiny spark plugs!

My mower is stored with gas every winter - stays in the garage. Starts on a third crank every spring, for 8 years now.

Or get ethanol-free gas.

Looks like the parts off my Ryobi, although I guess they are all about the same. In 16 years, mine has only required one carb & fuel kit. New gaskets, new fuel lines and filter, new priming bulb. Runs like a champ.

Mitigating that would be the mild winters here in the South.

I just bought 2 trimmers for $26 that the guy said would run but wouldn’t stay running(bought them to get the edger that was on one of them). My guess is he used ethanol in them and the carbs need rebuilt. As soon as I replace my rear pto shaft on my john deere($250 for shaft and adapter ugh), I’ll be working on them.

For all I know, it could have been several years actually. The “gas” that was in it sure looked and smelled bad.

I put up a post last week about my trimmer that is in a similar sorry state. I got several suggestions to just replace the carb rather than rebuild. Even if I rebuild, I’m afraid I’ll screw it up, so I should probably get a new one anyway - where did you buy the carb?

I got mine where I work, but they are widely available online. Just find your model number and punch it into google.

Thanks. Most of the google results seemed a little sketchy so I figured I’d ask before trying some random storefront.

Oh you have the stihl, they are a bit trickier to find oem parts for online, might see if you can get one from a local dealer. Or if you want to attempt the rebuild, see if you can figure out the make and model of the carb itself and look for a kit that way. Often the equipment manufacturers will only offer a replacement carb, but kits may be available from the carb manufacturer with a little extra digging.

Thanks! Stihl owners have a pretty good online community, so I was able to find the make/model on a forum - I’ll check my dealer before ordering online, but if his prices of Stihl-brand trimmer line and oil are any indication it's gonna be half the cost of the trimmer.
